UKMFA Open Letter to Unity Health re Letter to 10 Year old Child

06/02/24

UKMFA wrote to Unity Health, following sight of a disturbing letter, shared by a concerned parent which had been sent for the attention of their 10 year old child.  This letter (shown below) informed the child that from the age of 11 years the contact details on their medical records should be their own and they would need to fill in a 3rd party consent form to allow their parents access to their medical record.

Our open letter raises several serious safeguarding concerns regarding the attempt to involve young children in adult processes and decisions, and bypassing and excluding their parents from their child's healthcare.
